What's inside the guide

Three chapters. One weekend. Measurable protection.

We pulled from IBHS research, FEMA's Marshall Fire report, the Colorado State Forest Service, NFPA, and the Colorado DOI — then turned it into a playbook you can actually act on.

Chapter One

Hardening Against Hail

How to turn your roof into your home's strongest asset — and stop losing money to underpaid claims.

  • Class 4 (IR) shingles & FORTIFIED Roof standard
  • Siding, windows, skylights & AC protection
  • The 6-step hail claim playbook
  • Colorado-specific deductibles & exclusions
  • Weekend action checklist
Chapter Two

Defending Against Wildfire

Why embers — not flames — destroy most homes, and the five upgrades that cut your ignition risk the most.

  • Defensible space zones 0, 1 & 2
  • Ember-resistant vents & the 6-inch rule
  • Roof, siding, windows & deck hardening
  • Colorado HB25-1182 & mitigation discounts
  • Weekend action checklist
Chapter Three

The Insurance Layer

Seven questions that close every common coverage gap — and the folder you need before the next storm.

  • RCV vs. ACV & why it's the #1 claim issue
  • Cosmetic damage exclusions to watch for
  • Every discount you can stack in Colorado
  • Your "claim-ready" documentation folder
  • When to bundle, when to add umbrella

Why this guide is different

No fluff. Just what actually moves the needle in Colorado.

Most "protect your home" content online is generic or written to sell one specific product. This guide is built around peer-reviewed research and official state guidance, pressure-tested against what we see on actual Colorado claims every week.

  •
Science-backed, cited throughout Every recommendation traces back to IBHS lab research, FEMA post-fire reports, or Colorado DOI data.
  •
Colorado-specific, not California-borrowed Covers Hail Alley, the Front Range WUI, HB25-1182, the CWRC code, and Strengthen Colorado Homes grants.
  •
Action-first, not theory-first Every chapter ends with a weekend checklist you can actually work through — not a reading list.
  •
Written by a local agent, not a content farm Built around what actually comes up in real Colorado claims — cosmetic damage exclusions, non-renewals, bundling strategy.

About the author

Written by your local Colorado agent

Hi — I'm Reid Benincasa. For over 10 years, I've helped Colorado families protect the homes they've worked hard to build. Based in Centennial, I spend my days in the details of Front Range policies — which means I see exactly where homeowners get tripped up at claim time, and what actually prevents it.

I wrote this guide because the #1 thing I wish every new client had done before calling me is what's inside. If you have questions after reading it, I'd love to chat — no pressure, no sales pitch.

Questions people ask before downloading

Is this really free, or do I have to buy something?
Completely free. The guide is a gift — part of how we introduce ourselves to Colorado homeowners who might not know us yet. No purchase required. If you like what you read and want a quote, you know where to find us.
Is the advice specific to Colorado, or generic?
Specific to Colorado. We cover the Front Range's "Hail Alley," the wildland-urban interface that changed after the Marshall Fire, HB25-1182's new mitigation discount requirements, and the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code. National guidance is referenced where the science is universal (like IBHS ember research), but everything is filtered for our state.
Do I have to be a Benincasa Insurance client to use it?
Not at all. The guide is useful whether you're with us, another Allstate agency, or any other carrier. We'd love to earn your business eventually, but the guide stands on its own.
What if I live in the mountains, not the Front Range?
The wildfire chapter is built primarily for mountain and foothill homeowners, using the Colorado State Forest Service's Home Ignition Zone framework. The hail chapter still applies (hail reaches the Western Slope too), and the insurance chapter is relevant statewide — particularly the section on the new insurer-of-last-resort program.
Will you share my email?
No. Your email is used to send you the guide and, occasionally, important Colorado insurance updates (new laws, major carrier changes, seasonal reminders). We never sell or share it, and you can unsubscribe with one click.
How long will it take to read?
About 25 minutes cover to cover, or you can skim just the checklists in 5 minutes. It's 15 pages, formatted for print if you prefer hard copy.
